Team Summary

Lineage Logistics is the world's largest temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics company and is a leader in the application of math and science to the industrial sector via its award-winning data science team. Lineage Logistics’ Data Science team—ranked #1 Most Innovative Data Science team by Fast Company in 2019—is growing rapidly and continues to leverage quantitative methods and diverse backgrounds to optimize more aspects of Lineage’s business. The Research and Development team (R&D) is a subset of the Data Science team that focuses on how Lineage uses energy, and develops novel solutions to improve efficiency and reduce costs. These projects range from renewable and novel energy generation systems to energy market participation and automated control systems, and cover every aspect of Lineage’s energy and sustainability profile.

Job Description

This position will primarily focus on two major initiatives: deregulated energy market participation and microgrid design. The R&D team has developed an abundance of energy solutions to reduce Lineage’s energy usage and costs, including onsite generation, solar, li-ion batteries, thermal flywheeling, advanced control systems, truck electrification, automated grid interconnections, and power factor optimization. Concurrently, R&D has developed strategies to interact with deregulated, regional energy markets, culminating in a comprehensive U.S. hedging strategy. This role will help integrate and systematize these initiatives, leading to a comprehensive strategy that can be scaled to the entire portfolio, and enabling new and exciting interactions between Lineage facilities and broader energy markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Use optimization and statistical methods to inform microgrid design and deployment
  • Use forecasting models and time series methods to make data-driven decisions about energy market participation and market hedging
  • Analyze and disseminate metrics of Lineage’s energy performance
  • Support the R&D team in all functions necessary to achieve R&D team goals, including but not limited to ad-hoc energy-related analyses
  • Financial analysis and forecasts for strategic CAPEX projects
  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret trends and conditions in various energy markets
  • Interact with other functional groups to promote data-driven decision making across the company

Requirements

The successful candidate will have experience in data analysis and visualization, statistical methods, and working on multifaceted problems that involve nuanced analyses and significant financial impact. Critical thinking and resourcefulness are highly valuable in this setting. An ideal candidate would also have experience leading and organizing long term projects, collaborating across multiple diverse teams, and be a strong communicator. Below are some additional desired qualifications:

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Finance, or Physics (among others).
  • Expertise in statistical analysis, data visualization, data modeling/forecasting, and programming tools such as Python or R.
  • Experience evaluating financial risk stemming from difficult to predict market conditions and processes or other relevant finance background.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • 1-3 years of experience in data science or applying quantitative methods to financial market data.
  • Experience in US or international energy markets or industrial energy projects.
  • Ability to distill technical analysis and communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences.
