CarbonBuilt addresses climate change by permanently and cost-effectively storing CO₂ ,in the form of calcium carbonate,  in concrete. Having completed two successful pilot demonstrations and winning the NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE competition, CarbonBuilt is seeking a process engineer to join their rapidly growing team. The successful candidate will work alongside the core engineering team, with regular travel to customer and system fabrication locations. The candidate is expected to meet pre-determined project goals and timelines.

The successful candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in process design and scale-up, ideally related to process design and engineering of gas processing. They will work as part of a small team to complete the detailed design of a process that utilizes gas streams that contain CO₂ to carbonate a novel concrete mixture design. This position will initially report to the CarbonBuilt’s Head of Engineering.

Qualifications:

• In depth understanding of heat and mass transfer and process reactions to develop a process flow diagram (PFD)
• Experience in identifying system instrumentation and develop a piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID)
• Skilled using ASPEN simulations (or equivalent process design and optimization software) to optimize and scale up a process design
• Ability to translate data from lab- to industrial scale to inform system design
• Ability to identify, select and size process equipment
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Responsibilities:

• Developing a design basis memorandum as a foundation for a system engineering design
• Developing site configurations and specifications for commercial carbonation systems
• Collaborating with external engineering design and system fabrication teams
• Collaborating with cross functional teams to achieve project goals and support production
• Additional duties as assigned
